Box Score BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 12th ranked Northampton men's basketball team improved to 23-3 on the season, downing Bergen Community College 89-62 on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
After a tight first 12 minutes, the Spartans used their transition game to take a 13 point lead at halftime at 42-29.
The Spartans continued their uptempo play and pressure defense in the second 20 minutes, outscoring the Bulldogs 47-33 in the second half.
"I thought we were a little sluggish at first, but once we got going, I thought we regained our confidence a little bit," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "We've had a tough stretch of games, but this is what prepares you for postseason."
D'Andre Davis (York, PA/York Catholic ) led four scorers in double figures with 17, followed by
Nasir Scott (Philadelphia, PA/Boys Latin of Philadelphia) 15,
Nazir Gossette (Philadelphia, PA/Math, Civics & Sciences Charter) 13 and
Reuben Soto (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) 11.
Tony James (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg ) hauled down a game-high 18 rebounds and added 6 points.
The win moves the Spartans to 19-3 in Region XIX and they improve to 4-3 all-time vs. Bergen.
The Bulldogs fall to 3-22 overall and 1-19 in Region play.
The Spartans finish up the regular season on Thursday in Newton, NJ when they take on Sussex County Community College at 7pm.
