BLUE BELL, Pa. - 110 minutes were not enough to decide the Region 19 men's soccer matchup between Northampton and Montgomery on Tuesday afternoon, with the EPAC foes ending in a 1-1 stalemate.
After a back and forth scoreless first half,
Gabe Lawler (Bangor, PA/Bangor ) put the Spartans up 1-0 at the 60 minute mark when he converted a penalty kick after being taken down in the box.
The Spartans held the 1-0 advantage for the next 25 minutes, but with just under 5 minutes to play, Montgomery was able to find the back of the net, beating
Drake Brackett (Easton, PA/Wilson Area) to tie the contest at 1-1.
The two teams battled through the final 5 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods, but neither team was able to land the game winner.
"it was a good battle today, Montgomery is always a tough opponent," commented Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "I thought we did a good job controlling possession early, but we were not able to finish once we got around the goal."
Brackett finished with 8 saves for the Spartans, who move to 4-4-1 overall, 3-3-1 in Region 19 and 2-0-1 in the EPAC.
Montgomery goes to 1-3-3 overall.
The Spartans are back on the road on Thursday, traveling to Media, PA to face Delaware County Community College with kick-off scheduled for 3:30pm.
