BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A 6-run first inning opened the flood gates and the Northampton baseball team continued to swing hot bats, pounding out 13 hits en route to a 14-4 victory over Union County College.
Joey Galantini (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) opened the bottom of the 1st with a double and eventually scored on single to center from
Collin Jensen (Garnet Valley, PA/Archmere Academy (DE)).
Isaiah Lockette (Steelton, PA/Steelton-Highspire) then singled on a line drive to left field, scoring Jensen, to make it 2-0 Spartans.
Jacob Yurkovitch (Pen Argyl, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond) singled, Lockette scored off a Union error,
Marcus Nales (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and
Garrett Garofalo (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) both singled, Yurkovitch scored and then
Jordan Siket (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) lined a double, which scored both Nales and Garofalo to put the Spartans up 6-0.
Northampton would add a run in the 2nd, a run in the 3rd, 3 in the 4th and 3 in the 7th. Lockette finished 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, Nales was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored and Garofalo was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.
Cade Horwath (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) picked up the win with 4 innings of work, allowng 1 run on 6 hits, striking out 1 and walking 2.
Tylar Patrick (Barrie, Ontario/Barrie North Collegiate) worked 2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits, striking out 3 and
Francesco Greco (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon (CT)) finished off the Owls, allowing no hits, no runs and striking out 1 in one inning of work.
Sean Granahan (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn) added a 2-run homerun for the Spartans.
Northampton, winners of 5 straight, improve to 5-3 overall, while Union falls to 4-12.
The Spartans are back at it on Thursday when they head north to Scranton, PA to face Division II Lackawanna College at 3:30pm.
