BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Mercer County Community College scored 3 runs in the 1st inning and 3 runs in the 2nd inning and went to defeat the Spartans 13-9 on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Park.
Errors contributed to the Spartans demise, as starter
Colby Butczynski (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area) was charged with 7 runs, but only 2 earned, allowing 4 hits in 3 innings of work.
Jordan King (York, PA/Central York) paced the offense with a 2 for 6 performance, including a homerun and 3 RBI.
Marcus Nales (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) added a homerun and
Jacob Yurkovitch (Pen Argyl, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond) had two hits, including a double.
The loss drops Northampton to 11-5 overall, while NJCAA Division II member Mercer improves to 18-12 overall.
The Spartans are back in action on Thursday when they host another Division II opponent, as the Falcons of Lackawanna College visit Bethlehem.
