Spartans Cruise Past Raritan Valley, 13-3

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Baseball team knocked out 19 hits, including 2 homeruns, as they downed Raritan Valley Community College, 13-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Park. 

The Spartans jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd, only to see the Lions tie things up in the top of the 4th with 2 homeruns.

Northampton responded with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of half of the 4th, powered by a Colin Gehringer (Exeter, PA/Exeter) 2-run double, to take a 7-3 lead. 

Both teams went scoreless in the 5th and 6th, but the Spartans erupted for 6 runs in the bottom of the 7th to end the scheduled 9-inning game early, via the 10-run rule. 

Joey Galantini (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) finished 2 for 4, including homerun, with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored, Jordan King (York, PA/Central York) was 4 for 5 with 2 RBI and Isaiah Lockette (Steelton, PA/Steelton-Highspire) finished 4 for 5 with a RBI and a triple.  Collin Jensen (Garnet Valley, PA/Archmere Academy (DE)) added a homerun and 2 RBI for Northampton. 

The Spartans used four pitchers in the victory, starter Colby Butczynski (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area) went 3 innings, allowing no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 3. Cade Horwath (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) pitched 1 inning, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and struck out 2.  Evan Zwolenik (Northampton, PA/Northampton) picked up the victory with 2 innings of work, allowing no runs on 2 hits.  Keegan Rude (Sayre, PA/Athens Area) finished the contest in the 7th, striking out 2 Lions. 

The win moves Northampton to 2-3 overall.  The Spartans are set to host Delaware Technical and Community College on Saturday at 12pm in a doubleheader.
