BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Softball team hosted Middlesex College on Thursday afternoon in a Region 19 doubleheader, dropping game one 16-4, the nightcap was halted in the 7th inning with the Spartans leading 11-6.
GAME ONE - Lost 16-4
Middlesex jumped out to an early 15-0 lead and cruised to a 16-4 victory over the Spartans. The Colts plated 5 runs in the 1st inning and 10 in the 2nd, chasing starter
Emily Michael (Easton/Easton ), who fell to 0-2 on the season with the loss.
The Spartans got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd as
Maria Pezzino (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) doubled and then scored on a
Jackie Jones (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) triple. Jones then scored on a
Emily Michael (Easton/Easton ) single to make the score 15-2.
Northampton added two more runs in the bottom of the 4th as
Mackenzie Hutchison (Easton, PA/Easton) walked, followed by a
Alexa Fancera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) single. Hutchison and Fancera both scored on a 2-RBI single from
Brielle Comiskey (Easton, PA/Wilson ).
Jones finished 2 for 3 with 1 RBI, while Comiskey was 1 for 2 with 2 RBI.
GAME TWO -
Leading 11-6 in top of 7th when game was halted due to darkness.
The Spartans led 11-6 heading into the top of the 7th inning, but the game was halted due to darkness. Region 19 rules specify that the halted game rule is in effect, thus the two teams will finish the contest when they meet again in Edison, NJ on April 15th.
Northampton, which falls to 1-4 overall, returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Vineland, NJ to face the Dukes of Cumberland County College.
