BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Baseball team swept a doubleheader from Central Penn College on Saturday afternoon, as veteran Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez picked up his 300th career victory.
GAME ONE - Won 5-2 (9 innings)
Trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the 7th inning,
Joey Galantini (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) lined a two-out single to score
Kyle Morin (Northampton, PA/Northampton) and send game one to extra innings.Â
Reliever
Tylar Patrick (Barrie, Ontario/Barrie North Collegiate) held the Knights scoreless in the 8th and 9th innings, setting the table for the thrilling finish to capture win 300 for Yaguez.Â
Kyle Morin (Northampton, PA/Northampton) led off the bottom of the 9th with a walk, followed by a single from
Adam Finkbiner (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth).Â
Jordan Siket (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) then lined a shot over the left field fence for a 3-run walk-off homerun to give the Spartans a thrilling 5-2 victory. Â
"What a way to get #300," remarked Yaguez, "I will definitely never forget that ... credit Central Penn they played very well, my hat is off to Zavier Hernandez, he pitched a great game for them, as did
Patrick Flynn (Easton, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond) for us. I can't say enough about our guys ... they never give up and today was just another example of that."
Siket finished 2 for 4 with 3 RBI, Finkbiner was 2 for 2, and
Jordan King (York, PA/Central York) finished 2 for 4 with a double.
Patrick picked up the win in relief of starter
Patrick Flynn (Easton, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond), striking out 3 in 2 innings of work. Flynn went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned), while striking out 12 and walking 4.Â
The victory makes Yaguez 300-166 (64%) during his career at Northampton.Â
GAME TWO - Won 10-2
The Spartans jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead after 3 innings and cruised to a 10-2 victory in game two.Â
Jacob Yurkovitch (Pen Argyl, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond)Â finished 3 for 4 with 4 RBI,
Adam Finkbiner (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI,
Kyle Morin (Northampton, PA/Northampton) went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI and
Sean Granahan (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West Lawn) was 1 for 1 with a double and a RBI to lead Northampton.Â
Cade Horwath (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) improved to 3-1 with the victory, going 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits, striking out 5 with no walks.Â
Isaiah Livingston (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) finished off the game, throwing the final two innings, allowing no runs on 1 hit, striking out 2 and walking 1.Â
The two victories improve Northampton to 13-6 overall, while Central Penn falls to 6-12 overall.Â
The Spartans are back in action Sunday when they host Keystone College JV, starting at noon.Â
