BRANCHBURG, NJ - Raritan Valley Community College scored five runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, overcoming a 6-5 deficit to take a 10-6 lead, and held on for a 10-8 victory on Sunday at Lions Park. Game two was cancelled due to rain.
Northampton got off to a quick start, as
Joey Galantini (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) led off the game by getting hit with a pitch,
Jordan King (York, PA/Central York) walked and
Isaiah Lockette (Steelton, PA/Steelton-Highspire) singled to load the bases.
Collin Jensen (Garnet Valley, PA/Archmere Academy (DE)) then lined a single to left field, scoring Galantini and King to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead.
The Spartans added two more runs in the 2nd, as Galantini homered, scoring
Jordan Siket (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) who had singled, to give Northampton a 4-0 advantage.
Raritan Valley responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd and 1 in the 4th, before the big five-run 5th, which put the Lions up 10-6.
Northampton scored 2 runs in the top of the 6th to cut the margin to 10-8, but the Spartans were unable to score in the 7th.
Colby Butczynski (Nanticoke, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area) took the loss, allowing 10 runs (9 earned) on 11 hits, striking out 3 and walking 1 in 5 innings of work.
Patrick Flynn (Easton, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond) came on in relief, throwing the 6th inning, striking out 2 and allowing no runs.
Isaiah Lockette (Steelton, PA/Steelton-Highspire) finished 3 for 5,
Collin Jensen (Garnet Valley, PA/Archmere Academy (DE)) was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI,
Colin Gehringer (Exeter, PA/Exeter) was 3 for 4 and
Jordan Siket (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) finished 2 for 4 with a homerun and 2 runs scored.
The loss drops Northampton to 15-8 overall, while Raritan Valley improves to 12-11.
The Spartans are back in action on Monday when they host Sussex County Community College in a single 9-inning game slated to begin at 3:30pm.
