BETHLEHEM, Pa - The Northampton women's tennis team opened the 2021 campaign with a 5-2 victory over previously undefeated Camden County College on Monday afternoon.
The match between the two Region 19 powers saw both teams play short-handed, as the Cougars only had 5 players, while the Spartans were limited to just 4 players in uniform.
After dropping the opening match at 1st doubles, the Spartans rallied to win 2nd doubles and and then swept all four singles matches that were contested, before forfeiting at #5.

New Head Coach
Tammy Smith, who picked up her first collegiate tennis coaching victory, was pleased with the teams effort, "I thought the girls really played well today given our short window of practice time. I think it effected us a little more in doubles play, but individually in singles competition, the girls really stepped up to the challenge."
Northampton improves to 1-0 overall, while Camden falls to 2-1.
The Spartans are now off until September 22nd when they travel to Blackwood, NJ to face the Cougars at 3:30pm.
