BLUE BELL, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer team clinched their 4th EPAC championship in program history with a 3-0 victory over Montgomery County Community College on a wet Thursday afternoon at the Mustang Soccer Plex.
Nicholas McCoy (Bangor, PA/Bangor) gave the Spartans an early 1-0 lead, finding the back of the net just 6 minutes into the contest off an assist from
Hatungimana Salem (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty).
Midway through the second half
Rodrigo Maguina (Peru/Easton) scored off a direct kick, his second goal off a direct kick in two games, putting the Spartans up 2-0.
Gabe Lawler (Bangor, PA/Bangor) finished off the scoring with 6 minutes remaining in the game, converting a penalty kick after getting taken down in the box.
Drake Brackett (West Easton, PA/Wilson) made 9 saves en route to his 3rd shutout of the year. The Spartans only allowed 1 goal in conference play this season.
"I thought we played one of our better games of the year," stated Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "the guys knew what was at stake today and they came to play ... hopefully we are hitting our stride as we head toward postseason play."
The victory moves Northampton to 9-2-1 overall, 5-2-1 in Region 19 and 3-0-1 in the EPAC.
Montgomery falls to 4-7-2 overall, 1-4-2 in Region 19 and 1-2-1 in conference play.
Northampton returns to their home pitch on Saturday when they host USCAA member Bucks County Community College at 12pm.
