BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team, behind 22 points and 12 rebounds from
Mike Marable (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna), downed NJCAA Division II County College of Morris 75-64 on Thursday evening at the Arthur L.Scott Center.
Marable was 9 for 12 from the floor and 4 for 5 from the line, as the Spartans finished 25 of 49 from the floor as a team.
Northampton jumped out to a comfortable 21-point halftime lead (47-26), but the Titan defense clamped down in the second half, forcing a total of 29 Spartan turnovers for the game.
"We got away from what we do best," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we started to force some things and quit moving on offense a little bit. Luckily our defense played well, holding them to 31% shooting and out-rebounding them by 9."
Keenan Roberts Jr. (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) added 12 points and 9 rebounds and
Naeem Purnell-Northern (Darby, PA/Penn Wood) chipped in with 11.
The Spartans, now 3-1 overall, hit the road on Saturday for their first Region 19 matchup of the year when they travel to Lancaster, PA, to face Thaddeus Stevens College.
Morris falls to 0-1 with the loss.
