BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 9th ranked Northampton men's basketball team picked up their 7th win of the season on Tuesday evening, downing USCAA member Manor College, 78-73, at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Northampton took a 13-point lead to the locker room at halftime, but the Blue Jays battled back in the second half, cutting the margin to just 3 late in the contest, but the Spartans were able to secure the victory with solid defense and clutch free throw shooting down the stretch.Â
"Definitely a gritty victory ... not pretty by any stretch, but the guys kept battling," commented Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "at the end of the day we were able to persevere and get the win."
Christion Johnson (Philadelphia, PA/Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast),
CJ Miles (Bangor, PA/Bangor) and
Tyrese Fuller (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) each scored 15 points to lead the Spartan offense, while
Mike Marable (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna) added 13.Â
Fuller hauled down 15 rebounds and Marable added 3 assists and 2 steals for the Spartans.Â
The win moves Northampton to 7-1 overall, and also was number 138 for Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, tying him with Fran Toner for the all-time record for wins at Northampton. Â
Manor falls to 1-4 with the loss.Â
The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they host the defending Region 19 Champions, the Community College of Philadelphia, at 2pm.Â
