BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton baseball team swept the County College of Morris in the
"Arctic Classic" on Sunday afternoon,
taking game one 6-3 and the nightcap 10-1 as the two teams battled cold temperatures, strong winds and the occasional snow squall at Spartan Field.
GAME ONE - Northampton 6 | Morris 3
Ashton Johnson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) earned the complete game victory in game one, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 4 and walking none, as the Spartans rallied to down the County College of Morris 6-3.
Trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the 6th,
Michael Wambold (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) singled to right field and then scored on a line drive double from
Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) to tie the game at 3-3.
Ryan Santangelo (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) was then hit by a pitch,
Luke Spencer (Dallas, PA/Lake-Lehman) walked,
Garrett Garofalo (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) was then hit by a pitch which scored Sabater.
Jake Hendershot (Martinsville, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan (NJ)) then got hit by a pitch, scoring Santangelo and giving Northampton a 5-3 lead. After a Morris pitching change,
Josh Herman (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) grounded out, but Spencer was able to score, putting Northampton up 6-3.
Despite only getting three hits, the Spartans utilized 2 walks and 4 hit batters to manufacture 6 runs. Wambold, Sabater and
Isaiah Lockette (Steelton, PA/Steelton-Highspire) accounted for the three Spartan hits, with Wambold and Santagelo each scoring 2 runs.
GAME TWO - Northampton 10 | Morris 1
The Spartans jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, tacked on 6 runs in the 4th and coasted to a 10-1 victory in game two over Morris.
The Spartan offense came alive in the nightcap, with 12 hits, including a 3 for 4 performance with 5 RBI from
Isaiah Lockette (Steelton, PA/Steelton-Highspire) and a 3 for 4 outing with 2 RBI for
Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn).
Patrick Flynn (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) earned the victory with 5 innings of work, allowing no runs on 3 hits, striking out 4 and walking 2.
Jake Black (Bethlehem, PA/Elizabethtown Area ) and
Ethan Ferraro (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown Area) finished up in relief, allowing 1 run.
Northampton moves to 14-3 overall with the sweep and will host #3 RCSJ-Cumberland on Tuesday at 3:30pm in a Region 19 tilt.
