BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 8th ranked Northampton baseball team picked up their 23rd win of the season, downing NJCAA Division II Lehigh Carbon Community College, 17-4, on Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Park.
The Spartans jumped out to an early lead in the cross-town matchup, leading 5-0 after two innings, and scoring at least 1 run in each inning en route to their 17th consecutive victory over Lehigh Carbon.
Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) led the hit parade with 3 hits, including a double,
Cole McGourty (Asbury, NJ/Voorhees (NJ)) was 1 for 1 with a homerun and 3 RBI,
Josh Herman (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI and
Max Rivas (Toms River, NJ/Toms River - South (NJ)) was 2 for 2 with 3 runs scored to pace the Spartan offense.
Patrick Flynn (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) earned the win on the mound with 3 innings of work, allowing 1 run (0 earned) on no hits, striking out 5.
Tyler Sharayko (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown Area) and
Francesco Greco (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon (CT)) combined to finish the contest, throwing 4 innings, allowng 3 runs (1 earned), with 2 strikeouts.
Northampton, now 23-5 overall, hits the road on Thursday for a midweek matchup at NJCAA Division II Sussex County Community College.
Lehigh Carbon falls to 1-11 overall.
