NEWTON, NJ - The Northampton Baseball team won their 3rd straight game on Thursday, downing NJCAA Division II Sussex County Community College, 13-3, at Skylander Stadium.
The Spartans got on the board in the 1st inning, as
Josh Herman (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) drove in
Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn), who had walked. Sussex scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th, but Northampton took the lead for good with 3 runs in the 5th, led by a
Ryan Santangelo (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) solo homerun.
Northampton added 4 runs in the 6th and 4 in the 9th to put the game out of reach.
Caleb Walker (Deposit, NY/Deposit Central (NY)) finished 3 for 6 with a double and 2 RBI, Santangelo was 3 for 5 and Herman was 2 for 5 as the Spartans pounded out 13 hits.
Ryan Gordon (New Cumberland, PA/Red Land) earned the victory in relief of starter
Ashton Johnson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth), allowing no runs on 1 hit, striking out 3. Johnson went 4 innings, allowing 3 runs (0 earned) on 4 hits with 2 strikeouts.
The win moves 8th ranked Northampton to 24-5 overall.
Sussex falls to 11-15 overall.
The Spartans are back on the road Saturday as they travel to Blue Bell, PA to face Montgomery County Community College in a non-league doubleheader.
