BLUE BELL, Pa. - The Northampton Baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep of Montgomery County Community College on Saturday afternoon, downing the Mustangs 17-3 in game one and 12-3 in the nightcap.
Game One - Northampton 17 | Montgomery 3
The Spartans got on the board early, plating 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning, as
Michael Wambold (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) singled and scored on a
Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) triple.
Ryan Santangelo (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) than singled home Sabater and
Josh Herman's (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) single scored Santangelo.
The Mustangs answered with 3 runs of their own in the bottom half of the 2nd inning, highlighted by a Sean McAfee double.
Spartan starter
Tylar Patrick (Barrie, ON - Canada/) threw a complete game, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 9 hits, striking out 7 and walking 2.
The Northampton bats finished with 19 hits, led by
Cole McGourty (Asbury, NJ/Voorhees (NJ)) with 4 hits and Sabater, who finished 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, a triple and a walk. Santangelo, Sabater and McGourty each had 3 RBI while Herman and
Caleb Walker (Deposit, NY/Deposit Central (NY)) each had 2.
Game Two - Northampton 12 | Montgomery 3
In game two, the Mustangs jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the 1st inning, but the Spartans responded with 5 runs in the second and never trailed the remainder of the game, earning the 12-3 victory.
The Spartans manufactured their 5 runs on 5 hits, 2 passed balls, an error, a stolen base and a fielder's choice.
The Spartan offense remained hot, hammering out 14 hits in game two, led by
Michael Wambold (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) and
Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn), each with 3 hits.
Ryan Santangelo (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) finished 2 for 3 with a walk and 3 RBI and
Ryan Gordon (New Cumberland, PA/Red Land) added a solo homerun to lead off the 4th inning.
Tyler Sharayko (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown Area) picked up the victory with 6 innings of work, allowing 3 runs (none earned) on 5 hits, striking out 3 and walking 1.
Ethan Ferraro (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown Area) pitched the 7th, striking out all 3 batters that he faced to close out the game.
The sweep moves the 8th ranked Spartans to 26-5 overall, while Montgomery falls to 4-8.
Northampton is back in action on Sunday when they host GSAC foe Camden County College at 12pm.
