TOMS RIVER, NJ - The Northampton Softball team earned a doubleheader sweep of Ocean County College on Sunday, riding the bat and arm of freshman
Regina Bangcoro (Easton, PA /Easton), who finished 7 for 9 on the day with 12 RBI and 3 homeruns and earned the victory in circle in game one.
Game One - Northampton 28 | Ocean 0
The Spartans jumped out to an insurmountable 13-0 lead after the top of the 1st and cruised to a 28-0 victory over Ocean in game one of the twinbill.
Natalie Lazaro (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) got the Spartans on the board with a double that scored
Dana Fisher (Wind Gap, PA/Pen Argyl) and then the floodgates opened, with 12 more runs crossing the plate.
Regina Bangcoro (Easton, PA /Easton) hit 2 homeruns, including a grand slam in the 4th inning, and finished 6 for 6 with 10 RBI and 4 runs scored.
Madelyn Ott (Bangor, PA/Bangor ) was 4 for 4 with 3 RBI,
Makaylah Sutton (Avenel, NJ/Colonia) went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and Lazaro finished 3 for 4 with 4 RBI and 5 runs scored.
Bangcoro earned the win with 5 innings of work, allowing no runs on 1-hit, striking out 10.
Game Two - Northampton 8 | Ocean 0
The Spartans once again jumped out early, scoring 7 runs in the top of the 1st inning, led by a
Destiny Koppenhaver (Bethlehem, PA/Commonwealth Charter ) RBI triple and a
Bridget Pavelko (Bethlehem, PA /Notre Dame - Green Pond ) 2-run homerun.
Koppenhaver finished 3 for 4 with a double, triple and 1 RBI,
Madison Kessler (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) was 2 for 3 with a double, Pavelko went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and
Regina Bangcoro (Easton, PA /Easton) added a solo homerun in the 4th.
Pavelko earned the victory with a complete game shutout, allowing only 5 hits while striking out 8.
Northampton improves to 7-11 overall and 6-6 in Region 19.
The Spartans are scheduled to host Division II Raritan Valley Community College on Tuesday at 3:30pm.
