BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 7th ranked Northampton Baseball team earned a doubleheader split on Saturday vs. NJCAA Division II Raritan Valley, taking game one 32-12 and then dropping game two 8-6 at Spartan Park.
Game One - Northampton 32 | Raritan Valley 12
In one of the stranger games of the 2022 season, Northampton and RVCC combined for 44 runs, with the Spartans taking a 22-0 lead into the 5th inning, and eventually winning 32-12.Â
Ryan Santangelo (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area)Â finished 4 for 5 with 3 doubles, a homerun and 10 RBI,
Chase Herb (Hegins, PA/Tri-Valley) had a homerun and
Stephen McMillan (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks - South) was 2 for 3 with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored. The Spartans had 22 hits and drew 12 walks, with 12 players having at least one hit.Â
Tylar Patrick (Barrie, ON - Canada/) earned the win, improving to 4-0 on the season, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings, striking out 5.
Ryan Mottley (Bloomsbury, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) and
Ethan Ferraro (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown Area) finished the final 2 innings, allowing 6 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits, walking 5 and striking out 3.Â
Game Two - Raritan Valley 8 | Northampton 6
In game two, RVCC's Connor Egan earned a complete game victory, holding the Spartans to just 7 hits, striking out 7 and walking just 1 batter in the 8-6 victory.Â
The Spartans scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st, highlighted by a
Ryan Santangelo (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) single that scored
Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn), but then went scoreless the next 4 innings before adding 3 runs in the 6th.Â
The Lions were able to push across runs in the 3rd and 4th innings and then used a Derek Vonhorn homerun in the 5th to plate 4 more runs.Â
Trailing 8-6 entering the bottom of the 7th, Northampton was able to load the bases, but could not push any runs across the plate.Â
Michael Wambold (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) finished 2 for 4 and
Caleb Walker (Deposit, NY/Deposit Central (NY)) was 1 for 2 with 1 RBI and a run scored for the Spartans.
Tyler Sharayko (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown Area) took the loss, allowing 7 runs (5 earned) in 5 innings of work, striking out 3 and walking 1.Â
Jake Black (Bethlehem, PA/Elizabethtown Area ) finished off the game, pitching the final 2 innings, giving up 1 run with 3 K's.Â
Northampton moves to 29-8 overall with the split, while RVCC goes to 10-22 on the season.Â
The Spartans travel to Maryland on Sunday as they face Anne Arundel Community College in a non-conference doubleheader.Â
