ARNOLD, MD - The 7th ranked Northampton Baseball team swept NJCAA Division II Anne Arundel Community College on Sunday, winning game one 12-1 and taking the nightcap 14-1 to pick-up wins #30 and 31 on the season.
Game One - Northampton 12 | Anne Arundel 1
The Spartans scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st, highlighted by RBI doubles from
Cole McGourty (Asbury, NJ/Voorhees (NJ)) and
Josh Herman (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond).
Northampton added 7 runs in the 3rd inning to put the game away, with
Michael Wambold (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) delivering the big blow with a 2-run homerun, which scored
Jake Hendershot (Martinsville, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan (NJ)).
Hendershot finished 3 for 4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored, Wambold was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI and Herman went 2 for 2 with a RBI, run scored and a walk.
Ashton Johnson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) was the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game 7-hitter, allowing 1 run, striking out 3 and walking none.
Game Two - Northampton 14 | Anne Arundel 1
Northampton once again jumped out to a lead after the 1st inning, manufacturing 4 runs on 5 hits, 2 passed balls, an error, and a hit by pitch.
The Spartans blew the game open in the 4th, scoring 6 runs on 7 hits, including doubles from
Ryan Gordon (New Cumberland, PA/Red Land),
Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) and
Cole McGourty (Asbury, NJ/Voorhees (NJ)).
Northampton added two runs in the top of the 5th to make it 14-1, with with Hendershot and Sabater both stroking RBI doubles.
The Spartans finished with 18 hits, led by Sabater who was 5 for 5 with 4 RBI, Hendershot 4 for 5 with 2 RBI, McGourty 2 for 5 with 2 RBI,
Max Rivas (Toms River, NJ/Toms River - South (NJ)) 1 for 3 with 2 RBI and
Caleb Walker (Deposit, NY/Deposit Central (NY)) 2 for 2 with a walk.
Patrick Flynn (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) improved to 4-0 with the win, allowing just 1 run on 2 hits over 4 innings with 4 walks and 1 K.
Francesco Greco (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon (CT)) closed out the game, allowing no runs on 1 hit.
The 7th ranked Spartans improve to 31-8 overall and are set to host NJCAA Division II Lackawanna College on Monday at 3:30pm in a single 9-inning game.
