BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) had a 4 for 8 day at the plate during Northampton's doubleheader vs. Union County College, but it wasn't enough as the Spartans fell to the Owls 5-1 in game one and 4-3 in game two on Wednesday at Spartan Park.

Game One - Union 5 | Northampton 1
Union opened the scoring with 2 runs in the 3rd inning, capitalizing on 2 Northampton errors and a two-out, 2-RBI single from Javier Alfonso.

The Spartans scored their only run of the game in the 4th inning when Michael Wambold (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) scored on a Luke Spencer (Dallas, PA/Lake-Lehman) sacrifice fly, cutting the Union lead to 2-1. 

The score remained 2-1 until the top of the 7th when Axel Olvera smashed a 3-run homer over the right field fence to give the Owls a 5-1 lead. 

The Spartans, who had 7 hits in the game, could not manufacture any runs in the bottom of the 7th, as Union pitcher Christopher Rios earned the complete game victory. 

Josh Herman (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) led the Spartans with 2 hits.

Tylar Patrick (Barrie, ON - Canada/) took the loss with a complete game 7-hitter, allowing 5 runs (3 earned), while striking out 5. 

Game Two - Union 4 | Northampton 3
The Owls, riding the momentum of their game one victory, jumped out early in the top of the 1st in game two with 2 runs, but the Spartans quickly answered with 2 runs of their own, as Michael Wambold (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) scored on a Luke Spencer (Dallas, PA/Lake-Lehman) ground out and Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) scored on a Josh Herman (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) line drive to right field. 

Union plated two more runs in the 3rd, but Northampton was able to answer with a run in the bottom half of the inning behind back to back doubles from Sabater and Spencer, making the score 4-3 Union after 3 innings. 

Both teams went scoreless the remainder of game as Union's Michael Urbano and Northampton's Tyler Sharayko (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown Area) were locked in a pitcher's duel.  Sharayko took the loss, throwing a complete game 7-hitter, allowing 4 runs (3 earned), with 3 strikeouts and only 1 walk. 

Sabater led the offense with 3 of Northampton's 7 hits, while Spencer finished with 2 RBI.

Northampton falls to 32-10 overall and 3-5 in Region 19, while Union improves to 7-25 overall and 6-20 in Region 19. 

Northampton is now off until Saturday when they host Salem Community College in a Region 19 doubleheader.
