BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer team improved to 4-0-0 on the season with a 2-0 victory over Montgomery County Community College on Thursday afternoon at Spartan Field.
Hatungimana Salem (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) got the scoring started, finding the back of the net off an assist from
Dominic Martocci (Roseto, PA/Bangor) at the 20 minute mark to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
The game remained 1-0 until 5 minutes remaining in the contest when
Nicholas McCoy (Bangor, PA/Bangor) was able to beat a Mustang defender off a through ball played by
Kolton Appleby (Easton, PA/Wilson), giving Northampton a 2-0 advantage.
"We didn't play our best soccer, but we were able to get the victory," commented Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "I thought we were a little sloppy at times, but I loved our effort and tenacity for the full 90 minutes."
Drake Brackett (West Easton, PA/Wilson) earned his first shutout of the season, notching 2 saves.
The win propels Northampton to 4-0 overall, 2-0 in Region 19 and 1-0 in the EPAC.
Montgomery falls to 3-3 overall, 1-1 in the Region and 1-1 in conference play.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday September 20th when they host
3rd ranked Camden County College.
