BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In a battle of nationally-ranked teams, 6th ranked Camden County College downed Northampton 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field.
After a scoreless first half, Camden found the back of the net at the 55 minute mark to take a 1-0 lead.
The Spartans, who received votes in the latest NJCAA DIII poll, responded 10 minutes later when
Gabe Lawler (Bangor, PA/Bangor) was fouled inside the penalty box and converted the ensuring PK to tie the contest at 1-1.
The Cougars tacked on a goal off a deflection at the 70 minute mark and then added another goal at the 75 minute mark to take a 3-1 lead.
The Spartans continued to push and Lawler scored his second goal of the night with 7 minutes remaining, off an assist from
Sohaib Aglaguel (Casablanca, Morocco/Moulay Idriss), to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Northampton had a couple more opportunities late, but the Camden goalkeeper came up big to preserve the 3-2 victory for the Cougars.
Drake Brackett (West Easton, PA/Wilson) made 5 saves for the Spartans.
The loss drops Northampton to 4-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in Region 19.
Camden improves to 4-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in Region play.
The Spartans are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Lehigh Carbon to face the Cougars.
