BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team used a 52 point second half to pull away from a 24-24 halftime deadlock and down Thaddeus Stevens College 76-60 on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur L. Scott Center. The win moved Northampton to 21-3 all-time vs. the Bulldogs.
The Spartans, who only shot 27% in the first half (10-37), shot a blistering 53% in the second stanza (17-32), increasing their lead to 24 points with 3:31 remaining in the contest.
Titus Wilkins (Easton, PA/Executive Education Academy Charter) led the Spartans with 22 points, as the starters combined to score 68 of the team's 76 points.
Mike Marable (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna) added 16, followed by
Keein Ward (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna) with 13,
CJ Miles (Bangor, PA/Bangor) with 10 and
Tyrese Fuller (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) with 7.
"Tough first 20 minutes shooting the ball," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "but once we found a rhythm, we really started to click in the second half. Credit Stevens, they play hard."
Ward led Northampton with 10 rebounds and Marable added 8.
The Spartans improve to 14-2 overall, 10-1 in Region 19 and 7-0 in the EPAC.
Stevens falls to 6-7 overall, 4-5 in Region 19 and 3-4 in conference play.
The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday as they head to Harrisburg, PA, to face the Hawks of Harrisburg Area Community College at 7pm.
