BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team improved to 3-0 in conference play with a 68-58 victory over Montgomery County Community College on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center, completing a sweep of the season series.
The Spartans, who led by as many as 21 points in the 3rd quarter, shot 43% for the game and out-rebounded the Mustangs 47-31.
"I'm happy with our ability to make plays down the stretch to close out the game," remarked Head coach
Terrence Bomar, "Montgomery never quit, they did a great job of fighting back, but we need to do a better job putting teams away when we get a big lead."
Xion Spence (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) led Northampton with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while
Alayna Day (Reading, PA/Muhlenburg) finished with 17 points and 3 steals.
Zoe Cruz (Swiftwater, PA/Pocono Mt. East) added 8 assists and 10 points, as Northampton assisted on 19 of their 29 field goals.
The win moves Northampton to 11-6 overall, 4-2 in Region 19 and 3-0 in the EPAC. Northampton is now 20-3 all-time vs. Montgomery.
Montgomery falls to 8-5 overall, 5-5 in Region 19 and 0-3 in conference play.
The Spartans are back in action on Thursday when they host RCSJ-Cumberland at 5pm.
