Nic McCoy (Bangor, PA/Bangor) broke a 1-1 deadlock with a free kick from 35 yards out with just 15 minutes remaining to give the Northampton men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Lehigh Carbon Community College on Monday afternoon..
After a scoreless 1st half, Lehigh Carbon's high-scoring Kacper Pazur converted a penalty kick 10 minutes into the second stanza to give the host Cougars a 1-0 advantage.Â
The Spartans then sped up the pace, pushing the tempo to try and get the equalizer, "We knew we needed to push the pace and attack," commented Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "we had been a little too complacent early and let them dictate tempo."

Justin Shambo (Bath, PA/Northampton) pass and found the sweet spot, beating the Cougar goaltender to tie the contest at 1-1, setting the stage for McCoy's heroics.Â
John Stier (Northampton, PA/Northampton) made 4 saves between the pipes to earn the win.Â
The victory moves Northampton to 5-6-1 overall, 4-4-1 in Region 19 and 4-2-1 in the EPAC.Â
Lehigh Carbon falls to 3-10-1 overall, 2-6-0 in Region and 2-5-0 in conference play. Â
The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday when the host Harrisburg Area Community College in their regular season finale at 3:30pm.Â
