CHARLOTTE, NC - Coming off a 20-8 campaign which saw them capture their first Region 19 title since 2012, the Northampton women's basketball team is ranked 12th in the NJCAA preseason poll, released by the national office.
The Spartans, under 4th year mentor
Terrence Bomar, return four players from last year's squad, led by
Kania Day (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) who averaged 10.3ppg and 7.5rpg. Joining Day are guards
Zoe Cruz (Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. East) and
Shanaiya Ellis (Allentown, PA/William Allen), who combined to make 50 3-pointers last season, and forward
Yonique Reynolds (Easton, PA/Wilson) who averaged 3.3ppg and 5.3rpg.
Bomar, who was named EPAC Coach of the Region 19 Coach of the Year and District Coach of the Year, enters 2023-24 with a career record of 34-15 (69%). "I'm excited for the season to start," remarked Bomar, "we still have work to do, but I think we have a group that can compete for the Region championship ... obviously that is a long ways off, but that is our goal in this program."
The Spartans will open the season on Thursday November 2nd when they travel to Penn State - Hazleton and then will play their home opener on Saturday when 9th ranked Prince George's Community College (MD) travels to Bethlehem for a 1pm tip-off..
