PATERSON, NJ - After a slow start in the non-conference portion of their schedule, the Northampton men's basketball team opened up Region 19 play with a resounding 66-45 victory over Passaic County Community College on Saturday afternoon at Panther Arena.
Elijah Hamilton (Atglen, PA/Octorara Jr/Sr) led the Spartans with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while
Naeem Purnell (Darby, PA/Penn Wood) added 13 points and point guard
CJ Miles (Bangor, PA/Bangor) had 9 points and 5 assists.
The Spartans jumped out to a 38-14 halftime lead behind a spirited defensive effort and then cruised to the 21-point victory.
"Good effort today to open the Region schedule," stated Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "this is never an easy to place play, so to get a Region road victory today is big."
The Spartans are now 1-0 in Region 19 and 1-3 overall.
Passaic falls to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the Region.'
Northampton will remain on the road, traveling to Bergen Community College on Tuesday for a Region 19 contest slated to tip at 7pm.
