BETHLEHEM, PA. - The 13th ranked Northampton men's basketball team won their 6th straight game on Tuesday evening, downing the Hawks of Harrisburg Area Community College 88-49 at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Spartans took a 22-point lead into the locker room at halftime, holding the Hawks to just 20% shooting from the field (5/24) in the first half.
"We were a little slow out of the gate, but defensively I thought we did a good job and we were able to dictate the tempo and take control of the contest," stated Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "we got great minutes from our bench and a very solid game from
Keein Ward (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township)."
Northampton held Harrisburg to just 24% shooting for the game, while converting 49% of their field goal attempts, including 6 3-pointers.
Elijah Hamilton (Atglen, PA/Octorara Jr/Sr) led the Spartans with 23 points and 8 rebounds,
Arkel Batts (Middletown, PA/Middletown) added 13 and
Nate Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and
CJ Miles (Bangor, PA/Bangor) chipped in with 10 each.
The win moves Northampton to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the EPAC, while Harrisburg falls to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Spartans return to the Spartan Center hardwood on Thursday when they host Broome Community College in a non-conference matchup at 7pm.
