CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The Northampton women's volleyball team dropped their first match of the season on Thursday evening, falling 3-1 to Monroe-Bronx in the opening round of the NJCAA National Tournament at Powerhouse Arena.
The 13th seeded Spartans and #4 Express were tied 1-1 after 2 sets, but a momentum changing 3rd set turned the tide for Monroe-Bronx. Northampton led 24-20 in the 3rd set before the Express rallied to win 27-25 and take a 2-1 lead. Monroe-Bronx then controlled the 4th set, winning 25-15, to take the match.

Joy Wetzel (Bath, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had 11 kills,
Ayana Bomani (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) recorded 10 kills and 14 digs and
Kailen Felty (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove) was credited with 8 kills and 13 digs for the Spartans.
The loss drops Northampton to 15-1, while Monroe-Bronx improves to 23-1.
The Spartans will now play on Friday November 10th at 1pm vs. 5th seeded Fulton-Montgomery Community College (NY), who lost 3-1 to #12 Alexandria Tech (MN).
