BETHLEHEM, PA. - The 13th ranked Northampton men's basketball team picked up another Region 19 victory on Saturday, outlasting the Bulldogs of Thaddeus Stevens College, 77-75, at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
In a game that was close throughout, the Spartans and Bulldogs were tied at 75 with 53.4 seconds left, but free throws from
Nile Mosby (Philadelphia, PA/Carver Engineering & Sciences) and
Nate Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) down the stretch proved to be the difference as Northampton improved to 22-3 all-time vs. Stevens.
"It was a rock fight," explained Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "both teams went toe to toe all afternoon and we were able to make a couple more plays down the stretch and get the W.
Ethan Sakwa (Tobyhanna, PA/Pocono Mt. West) gave us some big minutes toward the end of the game and Elijah (Hamilton) really played well inside."
Hamilton finished with 22 points and 11 board,
Naeem Purnell (Darby, PA/Penn Wood) had 18 points and
Nate Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) added 16, including 3 trifectas.
Matthew McCleary led the Bulldogs with 23 points, including 5 3-pointers, as Stevens finished with 11 made 3-point field goals.
The win moves Northampton to 8-2 overall, 5-0 in Region 19 and 3-0 in the EPAC.
Stevens falls to 3-6 overall, 1-6 in Region 19 and 2-2 in conference play.
The Spartans continue their homestand on Tuesday with a 7pm tip vs. Delaware County Community College.
