BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The top-seeded Northampton men's basketball team used a dominating performance to down #9 Passaic County Community College in the NJCAA North Atlantic District quarterfinals, 97-76, on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Spartans, who shot 53% for the game, including 8 of 14 from distance, led by as many as 30 late in the second half.
"Offensively a very solid performance," stated Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "defensively I thought we had a couple lapses, but I will take a 20+ point victory in the quarterfinals."
Five Spartans were in double figures, led by
Mike Marable (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna) with 27,
Titus Wilkins (Easton, PA/Executive Education Academy Charter) 16,
Christion Johnson (Philadelphia, PA/Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast) 14,
Tyrese Fuller (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) 13 and
Xavier Goodman (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown) 10.Â
Wilkins and Marable each had 10 rebounds to pace the Spatans on the boards, while Marable added 4 assists.Â
The win, the 18th in a row for Northampton, moves the Spartans into the semifinals on Thursday vs. #4 RCSJ-Gloucester, who defeated #5 Union 78-67.
Northampton improves to 27-2, while Passaic finishes the season 16-15.Â
