Baseball Picks Up Two Victories on Day One of Spring Trip

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The 11th ranked Northampton Baseball team picked up two victories on day one of their spring trip, downing the College of Dupage, 11-10, in game one and then topping Bay College, 12-0, in game two, at the Ripken Experience. 

GAME ONE vs. College DuPage - Won 11-10
The Spartans exploded with an 8-run first inning vs. the College of DuPage on Saturday, but then needed to hold off a late charge from the Chaps, earning the victory by an 11-10 score.

Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) finished 2 for 3, with a homerun and 3 RBI, and Josh Herman (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) knocked in 6 runs with a 2 for 3 performance, including a homerun. 

Tyler Sharayko (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) earned the win with 2.1 innings of work in relief of starter Cole McGourty (Asbury, NJ/Voorhees (NJ))Ryan Gordon (New Cumberland, PA/Red Land) came on in the 7th to close the door on DuPage, striking out 3 batters to end the comeback. 

GAME TWO vs. Bay College (DII) - Won 12-0
In game two, the Spartans jumped out early again, plating 6 runs in the top of the 1st, and then cruised to a run-rule shortened 5-inning 12-0 victory. 

Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) was 2 for 3 with a triple and Jake Hendershot (Martinsville, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan (NJ)) went 2 for 2 with a run a run scored and a RBI to pace the offense. 

Three pitchers combined for the shutout, as Ashton Johnson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth), Daniel McEvoy (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) and Jagger Martinez (Newport Beach, CA/Rockwall-Heath (TX)) collectively struck out 6, walked none and allowed only 1 hit. 

The two wins move Northampton to 4-0 on the season. 

Northampton will face Danville Area Community College at 3:30pm followed by PSU DuBois at 6:30pm.
