MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Northampton baseball team dropped their first game of the 2023 season, falling 3-2 to Henry Ford Community College on Monday afternoon at the Ripken Complex.
First inning miscues cost the Spartans, as Henry Ford plated 3 unearned runs in the top half of the inning, as Northampton committed 2 errors.
The Spartans shutdown Henry Ford for the remainder of the contest, limiting them to just 3 hits, but the offense could only muster 2 runs, despite getting 12 hits.
Ethan Woods (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) took the loss on the bump, going 6 innings, allowing 3 runs (all unearned) on 3 hits, striking out 3 and walking 2.
Brandon Ratti (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) closed out the 7th, striking out 2.
Caleb Walker (Deposit, NY/Deposit Central (NY)) paced the offense with a 2 for 4 performance, including a homerun, and
Shane Fillman (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) was 3 for 4 for Northampton.
The loss drops Northampton to 6-1 on season.
The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday when they are scheduled to face Monroe Community College (NY) from Region 3 in a doubleheader set for 6pm and 9pm.
