Arroyo's Perfect Game Leads Spartans to Sweep of Bergen

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton softball team opened up Region 19 play with a doubleheader sweep of Bergen Community College on Thursday afternoon, led by pitcher Aramie Arroyo (Minersville, PA/Minersville), who threw a perfect game in the Spartans 21-0 victory in game one.

GAME ONE - Won 21-0
Aramie Arroyo (Minersville, PA/Minersville) hurled a perfect game, going 5.0 innings, allowing no runs, no hits, and no walks, while striking out 9. 

The Spartans provided Arroyo all the offense she would need in the bottom of the 1st, scoring 10 runs, highlighted by a leadoff triple from Jillian Reed (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Institute of Technology (NJ)) and a bases clearing double from Bridget Pavelko (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond). 

Northampton added 10 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd, to take a 20-0 lead and added a run in the 3rd to make the score 21-0.

Chelsea Melkowits (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township (NJ)) was 2 for 2 with a double, triple, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, Theresa Luongo (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) finished 2 for 2 with 3 RBI and Bailey Goldberg (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) went 2 for 2 with 1 run scored to lead Northampton. 

GAME TWO - Won 24-5
In game two, the Spartans stayed hot, scoring 13 runs on 11 hits in the bottom of the 1st, including a 3-run homerun from Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor).

Bergen got on the board in the top of the 2nd, scoring 3 runs on 1 hit, a walk, a hit batter and an error. 

Northampton added 8 runs on 6 hits in the bottom of the 2nd to take a commanding 21-3 lead, en route to the 24-5 win.

Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor) finished 2 for 4 with a homerun, double, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored, Jenna Fey (Bangor, PA/Bangor) was 2 for 3, Madalynn Moyer (Palmerton, PA/Carbon Career and Technical) went 1 for 1 with a run scored and Bridget Pavelko (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond) was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI. 

Reggie Bangcoro (Easton, PA/Easton) picked up the win in the circle, going 2.1 innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 1 hit with 2 walks and 5 K's, including her 100th career strikeout.  Theresa Luongo (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) threw the final 2.2 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits with 6 strikeouts. 
The doubleheader sweep moves Northampton to 11-5 overall and 2-0 in Region 19. 

The Spartans are back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Camden County College to face the Cougars in a Region 19 doubleheader.
