BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In a series that started on February 26th, the Northampton baseball team closed out the series finale over Atlantic Cape Community College with an 11-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Spartan Field.
The Spartans pulled away from a 1-1 tie after the 2nd inning, scoring 10 unanswered runs to earn an 8-inning, run-rule shortened, victory to secure the Region 19 series sweep of the Buccaneers. The Spartans swept games one and two in February, 7-0 and 2-1.
Northampton pounded out 15 hits, led by
Shane Fillman (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall), who went 4 for 5 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBI.
Cole McGourty (Asbury, NJ/Voorhees (NJ)), who earned the victory on the mound, went 2 for 4 at the plate with 4 RBI, while
Josh Herman (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) finished 2 for 4 with a homerun and 2 RBI.
McGourty earned the complete game victory, allowing just 1 unearned run on 5 hits, striking out 4 and walking 1.
Atlantic Cape falls to 11-11 overall and 7-9 in Region 19 with the loss.
Northampton, now 20-12 overall and 8-10 in Region 19, are scheduled to host Bucks County Community College on Tuesday at 3:30pm in a 9-inning non-conference matchup.
