BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 15th ranked Northampton baseball used solid pitching and timely hitting to earn a 13-3 non-conference victory over Bucks County Community College on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Park.
The Centurions jumped out early, scoring 2 runs in the top of the 1st, but starting pitcher
Ashton Johnson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) settled in and earned the win, going 6 innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits with 4 K's.
The Spartans scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 2nd, highlighted by a
Shane Fillman (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) triple, which scored
Jake Hendershot (Martinsville, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan (NJ)).
Cole McGourty (Asbury, NJ/Voorhees (NJ)) put two more runs on the board for Northampton in the 4th inning, slamming a double to left field, which scored Hendershot and
Luke Spencer (Dallas, PA/Lake-Lehman), giving the Spartans a 8-3 lead.
The Spartans added 4 in the 5th and 1 in the 7th to earn the run-rule-shortened victory.
McGourty finished 2 for 5 with 3 RBI,
Gabe Caso (Califon, NJ/West Morris Central (NJ)) was 2 for 3 with a triple and 2 RBI and Hendershot went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base.
The win moves Northampton 21-12 overall. The Spartans are now 20-0 all-time vs. Bucks County Community College.
The Spartans are back in action on Wednesday, as they host NJCAA Division II Raritan Valley Community College at 3:30pm.
