Box Score 2 BLACKWOOD, NJ - The Northampton softball team, which received votes in the latest NJCAA poll, picked up two crucial Region 19 victories on Monday afternoon, sweeping Camden County College 29-5, and 10-0, at Cougar Park.
GAME ONE- Won 25-9
In game one, the Spartans got off to a quick start, as
Jillian Reed (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Institute of Technology (NJ)) led off with a walk and then scored when
Hannah Karc (Wind Gap, PA/Nazareth) homered to give Northampton a 2-0 lead.
Camden responded in the bottom half of the 1st, scoring 2 runs on 4 hits and a walk to tie the contest.
The Spartans then blew the game open with a 21-run 2nd inning, highlighted by a 3-run homerun from
Reggie Bangcoro (Easton, PA/Easton) and a grand slam from
Chelsea Melkowits (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township (NJ)), putting Northampton up 23-2.
The Spartans ended the game with 29 runs on 24 hits and 10 walks. Karc finished 3 for 3 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored,
Bailey Goldberg (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI, Melkowits went 3 for 3 with a double and 4 RBI and Bancoro was 2 for 3 with 4 RBI.
Theresa Luongo (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) earned the win relief of Bangcoro, working 4 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk.
GAME TWO - Won 10-0
Sierra Klingle was dominant in the circle in game two, throwing a complete game shutout, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 11 Cougars.
The Spartans scored 2 runs in the 1st and a run in the 2nd, before putting the game away with 7 runs in the 6th, to earn the 10-0 victory.
Bridget Pavelko (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond) was 3 for 3 with a walk, 2 runs scored and a RBI and
Destiny Koppenhaver (Bethlehem, PA/Commonwealth Charter) finished 2 for 2.
The doubleheader sweep moves Northampton to 16-8 overall and 7-3 in Region 19.
Camden falls to 7-15 overall and 2-8 in the Region.
The Spartans are back in action Tuesday as they host Middlesex College in a non-conference doubleheader slated for 3:30pm.
