BETHLEHEM, Pa. -
Jake Black (Bethlehem, PA/Elizabethtown) pitched a complete game 4-hitter to lead #3 Northampton to a 5-1 victory over #6 RCSJ-Cumberlnd in game one of their opening round Region 19 best of three playoff series. Black allowed 1 run, struck out 4 and did not walk a batter in earning the win.
The Dukes got on the board in the 1st inning, scoring on a sacrifice fly, but were then held scoreless by Black and the Spartan defense over the next 8 innings.
The Spartans tied the game in the 7th inning and then scored 4 in the 8th to break the game open.
Josh Herman (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) finished 3 for 3 with a RBI,
Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI,
Shane Fillman (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) had 2 RBI and
Caleb Walker (Deposit, NY/Deposit Central (NY)) went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a walk.
The 3rd seeded Spartans improve to 30-13 overall, while Cumberland falls to 18-21.
Game two of the series is set for 2:00pm.
Game three, if necessary, will be on Sunday May 14th at 12pm, in Bethlehem.
