SEWELL, NJ - The Northampton softball team wil play for the Region 19/North Atlantic District B Championship on Sunday May 14th in Sewell, NJ vs. RCSJ-Gloucester. The 3rd seeded Spartans and 2nd seeded Roadrunners will face-off in a best of three series, with the winner advancing to the NJCAA National Championship in Syracuse, NY, May 24-27.
The Spartans (24-10) split with the Roadrunners (35-13) during the regular season, dropping game one, 3-0, and then taking the second game, 6-4, on May 5th in Sewell, NJ.
The 2023 season has been a resurgence for the Spartan Softball program, returning to the Region championship game for the first time since 2009. The 24 wins so far this season are the most since 2012, when Northampton finished 24-13. The Final Four appearance is Northampton's 7th in program history, but first since 2014.
Cassandra Schillo (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) leads the Spartans in batting with a .456 average, followed by
Jillian Reed (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Institute of Technology (NJ)) at .453 and
Hannah Karc (Wind Gap, PA/Nazareth) at .450.
Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor) leads the team in homeruns (4) and RBI (46), while batting .417.
Aramie Arroyo (Minersville, PA/Minersville) has been the ace on the mound, sporting an 8-4 record with 121 strikeouts in 84.2 innings with a 1.90 ERA.
Game one of the best of three series is set for noon on Sunday, with game two scheduled for 2:30pm. The third game, if needed, will be played Monday at 3:30pm at RCSJ-Gloucester.
