Box Score 2 SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. - The Northampton softball team, which received votes in the latest NJCAA National poll, swept a Region 19 doubleheader vs. cross-town rival Lehigh Carbon Community College on Tuesday afternoon, downing the Cougars 5-3 and 10-2.
GAME ONE - Won 5-3
Chelsea Melkowits (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township (NJ)) got things started for the Spartans in the 2nd inning with a double, followed by a
Bridget Pavelko (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond) walk, and then a 2-run double from
Jenna Fey (Bangor, PA/Bangor). Fey advanced to 3rd on a ground out from
Jillian Reed (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Institute of Technology (NJ)) and then scored on a single from
Hannah Karc (Wind Gap, PA/Nazareth) to put Northampton up 3-0.
The Cougars responded with 2 runs in the 3rd, on 1 hit, 1 walk and 2 Spartan errors, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
Melkowits started things again for the Spartans in the 5th, drawing a walk, stealing second and then scoring on a
Bridget Pavelko (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond)Â single to put Northampton up 4-2.
LCCC cut the margin to 4-3 in the 5th, scoring 1 run on 2 hits, an error and a walk.Â
The Spartans added an insurance run in the 7th, as
Cassandra Schillo (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) lead off with a triple and then scored on a single from
Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor).
Reggie Bangcoro (Easton, PA/Easton) earned the win with 4.2 innings of work, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits, with 6 K's and 3 walks.Â
Aramie Arroyo (Minersville, PA/Minersville) pitched the final 2.1 innings, allowing no runs on no hits, striking out 4, including her 100th strikeout of the season.
Fey finished 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and Schillo was 2 for 4 with 1 run scored.Â
GAME TWO - Won 10-2 (5 innings)
Siera Klingle (East Bangor, PA/Bangor) earned the win in game two, throwing a complete game (5 innings), allowing 2 runs on 8 hits with 5 strikeouts, as the Spartans downed the Cougars 10-2.Â
A 5-run 2nd inning, highlighted by a
Hannah Karc (Wind Gap, PA/Nazareth)Â 2-run double, keyed the victory for NorthamptonÂ
Karc finished 3 for 4, including 2 doubles, and 3 RBI and
Cassandra Schillo (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) was 2 for 4 with a triple and 3 RBI to pace the Spartan offense.
The doubleheader sweep moves Northampton to 21-9 overall and 10-4 in Region 19.Â
Lehigh Carbon falls to 4-8 in Region 19 and 6-12 overall.Â
The Spartans are scheduled to finish their regular season on Friday when they travel to #3 ranked RCSJ-Gloucester for a Region 19 doubleheader vs. the Roadrunners.
