BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 13th ranked Northampton baseball team closed out their series vs. Ocean County College with a dominating 18-4 win on Monday afternoon at Spartan Park. The victory, Northampton's 7th straight, gave the Spartans the series win, 2 games to 1.
The Spartans offense was in high gear on Monday, scoring 18 runs on 21 hits, opening up a 8-0 lead after 3 innings and cruising to the 14-run victory.
Jeffrey Sabater (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) finished 4 for 5 with 3 RBI,
Jake Hendershot (Martinsville, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan (NJ)) was 4 for 5 with a homerun and 4 RBI and
Caleb Walker (Deposit, NY/Deposit Central (NY)) went 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored and 1 RBI to lead Northampton.
Jake Black (Bethlehem, PA/Elizabethtown) earned the victory, working 4 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits while fanning 7.
Austin Beard (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) and
Ashton Johnson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) combined to pitch the final 3 innings in relief.
The win moves Northampton to 29-13 overall and 15-11 in Region 19.
Ocean falls to 11-14 in the Region and 16-20 overall.
Northampton is now off until Saturday May 13th, when it appears that they will host a first round best of three playoff series. Official word will come on Wednesday when the Region 19 seeding is released.
