HARRISBURG, Pa. - Trailing 2-0 with 28 minutes remaining in the game, the Northampton men's soccer team rallied to tie Harrisburg Area Community College 2-2 on Saturday afternoon at Hawk Field.
After a scoreless first half, Harrisburg struck first at the 53 minute mark and then added a second goal just 7 minutes later to take a 2-0 lead.
Two minutes later
Brenden Nye (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) slotted the ball through to
Justin Shambo (Bath, PA/Northampton) who beat the Hawk goaltender to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Spartans continued to pressure the Harrisburg defense and scored the tying goal with just 5 minutes remaining when
Hayden Burns (Bangor, PA/Bangor) crossed the ball into the box and
Ty'Shawn Skinner (Youngstown, OH/Girard (OH)) was able to head it home to tie the contest at 2-2.
"Really proud of the fight in the guys today," commented Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "despite being down 2 goals on the road, the guys never gave up and just kept pressing and we were finally able to break through and rally to earn the draw."
Colston Jasionowski (Easton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) recorded 7 saves in goal for the Spartans.
The tie moves Northampton to 1-1-1 overall, 1-0-1 in Region 19 and 1-0-1 in the EPAC.
Harrisburg is now 1-2-1 overall, 1-0-1 in Region 19 and 1-0-1 in conference play.
The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday when they host Montgomery County Community College at 3:30pm.
