Box Score NEWTON, NJ - The 8th ranked Northampton women's basketball team shook off a sluggish first half to outscore SussexCounty Community College by 36 points in the second half, to earn an 87-49 victory over the Skylanders on Saturday afternoon at the Sussex Athletic Center.
The Spartans struggled offensively and defensively over the first 20 minutes, holding just a 2-point lead at the break (34-32). "We really struggled in the first half," commented Head Coach
Terrence Bomar, "We couldn't get really find a rhythm in the first half, I'm proud that we were able to regroup at halftime and and buckle down over the final two quarters and play Spartan basketball."
Xenia Gillis (Yeadon, PA/Penn Wood) led Northampton with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals, while
Kania Day (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) added 16 points and 8 rebounds.Â
Shanaiya Ellis (Allentown, PA/William Allen) netted 14 points, grabbed 8 rebounds had 6 steals and dished out 5 assists, and
Anisha Sepulveda (Lancaster, PA/McCaskey) chipped in with 10 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds.Â
The Region 19 victory moves Northampton to 11-2 overall and 7-0 in Region 19.
Sussex falls to 6-9 overall and 4-3 in the Region.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday when they host nationally-ranked Division II Raritan Valley Community College at 5pm.Â
