BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 8th ranked Northampton women's basketball team opened 2024 with a dominating 81-32 victory over the Community College of Philadelphia on Tuesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Kania Day (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while
Zoe Cruz (Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. East) added 17 as the Spartans outscored the Lions 51-15 in the second half. "Great start to the second half of our season," commented Head Coach
Terrence Bomar, "yet, we still have a lot of work to do to achieve our goals as a team."
Northampton shot a season-best 49% from the field, while holding Philadelphia to just 21% shooting. The Spartans won the rebounding battle 55 to 36 and forced the Lions into 33 turnovers.
Kamauri Gordon-Bey (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) had 12 points and 10 rebounds and
Yonique Reynolds (Easton, PA/Wilson) notched 7 steals for Northampton.
The win moves Northampton to 10-1 overall, 6-0 in Region 19 and 3-0 in the EPAC.
Philadelphia falls to 1-8 overall, 1-6 in the Region and 0-4 in conference play.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday with a road trip to Branchburg, NJ to face Division II Raritan Valley Community College at 5pm.
