BETHLEHEM, Pa. - 90 minutes of action could not provide a winner on Thursday afternoon at the Spartan Soccer Complex, as Northampton and Montgomery battled to their second tie of the season. The two EPAC foes, who played to a 2-2 deadlock on September 24th in Blue Bell, battled to a scoreless draw Thursday.
The Spartans outshot the Mustangs 12 to 5, and had a number of quality scoring chances, but could not find the back of the net. "We had some great opportunities to score today," lamented Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "we dominated possession, but we just couldn't put the ball in the net. Our defense played great today,
Hayden Burns (Bangor, PA/Bangor) was tremendous in the midfield and controlled the game for us."
Omar Zatar (Paterson, NJ/Pocono Mt. West) had 3 saves in recording his 2nd shutout of the season.
Northampton moves to 5-3-2 overall, 4-3-2 in Region 19 and 2-1-2 in the EPAC.
Montgomery is 3-1-3 overall, 3-1-3 in the Region and 2-0-2 in conference play.
The Spartans head to Scranton on Saturday to face NJCAA Division II Lackawanna College at 2pm.
