Spartans Clinch Playoff Berth with 6-0 Win Over LCCC

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's soccer team clinched a Region 19 playoff berth with a 6-0 shutout of Lehigh Carbon Community College on Tuesday afternoon at the Spartan Soccer Complex. 

Kaden Dowd (Bangor, PA/Bangor) got the Spartans on the board early, taking a Hayden Burns (Bangor, PA/Bangor) pass and beating the Cougar goaltender for a 1-0 Northampton advantage. 

The Spartans continued to dominate play throughout the 1st half, but could not find the back of the net, until 3 minutes remaining before halftime when they exploded for 3 goals.  Wisdom Ntona (Johannesburg, South Africa/Queens) led the charge, scoring two goals and assisting on the other, as the Spartans took a dominating 4-0 lead into halftime.  

Ntona assisted Elijah Ejiofor (Gonesse, France/Pocono Mt. West) at the 42 minute mark, then scored off an assist from Christopher Martinez (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and then added his 2nd goal in under a minute off a pass from Ejiofor. 

The Spartans added 2 goals in the second half and Omar Zatar (Paterson, NJ/Pocono Mt. West) made 1 save to earn his 3rd shutout of the season.

Elijah Ejiofor (Gonesse, France/Pocono Mt. West) scored 2 goals, Wisdom Ntona (Johannesburg, South Africa/Queens) had 2 goals and 2 assists and Hayden Burns (Bangor, PA/Bangor) had a goal and an assist to lead Northampton. 

The win moves Northampton to 6-4-2 overall, 5-3-2 in Region 19 and 3-1-2 in the EPAC. 

Lehigh Carbon falls to 2-7-0 overall, 0-6-0 in the Region and 0-5-0 in conference play. 

The Spartans host Middlesex College on Thursday at 4pm.
