BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team picked up their second victory of the young season on Sunday afternoon, downing Tompkins-Cortland Community College 67-60 at the Arthur L. Scott Center, behind a stout defensive effort.
The Spartans held the Panthers to just 17 field goals and 28.8% shooting from the field, while owning the battle of the backboards, 60 to 43.
"I'm really happy with our defensive effort tonight," remarked Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "typically our defensive intensity is pretty consistent, and we needed it tonight as we struggled a bit from the field, especially behind the arc."
Nasir Ruhani (Brooklyn, NY/Eagle Academy (NY)) led the Spartans with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while
Taemas Jones (Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain East) added 13 points and 7 assists.
Ameer Herran (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) recorded 9 points and hauled down a team-high 12 rebounds
Tompkins-Cortland (NY), falls to 0-1 with the loss, while Northampton improves to 2-0.
The Spartans are now off until November 12th when they continue their homestand when they host Bergen Community College at 7pm.
