Spartans Pull Away in Second Half for Non-Conference Victory

BINGHAMTON, NY - The 13th ranked Northampton men's basketball team used a strong second half performance to down Broome Community College (NY), 78-70, in a non-conference match-up  on Tuesday evening at Richard E. Baldwin Arena.

The Spartans, who trailed 35-33 at halftime, used a strong performance at the charity stripe, 23 of 26, including a perfect 12 of 12 in the 2nd half, to overcome 10 3-pointers by the Hornets, outscoring Broome 45-35 in the final 20 minutes.

Nasir Ruhani (Brooklyn, NY/Eagle Academy (NY)) scored a team-high 28 points, Sebastian Fermin (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain East) added 22 points, including 3 3-pointers, while Ameer Herran (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) and Abdul Jackson (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) each finished with 11.

"Always a tough venue to get a W at," remarked Head Coach Brennan McCarthy, "these Region 3 teams are battled tested and credit Broome, they shot it well tonight from behind the arc, but our guys played hard and were able to make enough plays to get the win."

The win moves Northampton to 11-1 overall, while Broome falls to 2-6.

The Spartans are now off until Saturday December 14th when they travel to 6th ranked Montgomery County Community College.
