BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton men's basketball team closed out the regular season on Sunday afternoon at the Arthur L. Scott Center with a convincing 78-58 victory over Lehigh Carbon Community College, picking up their 20th win of the season.
The Spartans, playing their second game in 24 hours, held LCCC to just 7 field goals, on 28% shooting, in the 1st half as they built a 10 point advantage heading into halftime.Â
Both offenses shot the ball better in the second half, but the Spartans were able to build their lead to 26 points with 6:11 remaining in the contest, before settling on the 20-point victory.Â
CJ Miles (Bangor, PA/Bangor) led the charge with 20 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds, while
Nate Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) added 22 points, which included a 5 for 8 performance from distance.Â
Elijah Hamilton (Atglen, PA/Octorara Jr/Sr) chipped in with 12 points and 9 rebounds and
Austyn Lutes (Easton, PA/Easton) scored a season-high 9 points for Northampton.Â
"Nice finish to the regular season," stated Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy, "really proud of how the guys worked on the defensive end, especially with the back-to-back games. We now get a little break to get healthy and prep for the postseason."
The Spartans finish the regular season at 20-9 overall, 13-5 in Region 19 and 12-2 in the EPAC.Â
Lehigh Carbon falls to 8-19 overall, 4-13 in the Region and 5-9 in the conference.Â
The Spartans now await their seed and opponent for for the upcoming Regon 19 Tournament. Seeding is scheduled to be released on Wednesday February 21st.Â
