CARNEYS POINT, NJ - Fresh off an 11-1 victory in game one of their 3-game series on Thursday vs. Salem, the 6th ranked Northampton Baseball team finished off the sweep on Saturday, downing the Mighty Oaks 10-3 and 8-1.
GAME TWO vs. Salem (Won 10-3)
Brody Hinkle's (Wrightsville, PA/Eastern York) 2-run single in the 3rd inning broke open the game for the Spartans, as they scored 6 runs in the inning to take a commanding 7-1 lead, en route to the 10-3 victory.
Austin Beard (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) earned the win, going 6.0 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned), scattering 4 hits, walking 3 and striking out 7.
Ellis Snow (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) pitched a scoreless 7th, fanning 2.
Brandon Ratti (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) finished 1 for 2, including a triple, with 2 RBI, 3 walks and a run scored.
Brody Hinkle (Wrightsville, PA/Eastern York) went 1 for 3 with 3 RBI and
Luis Beato (Bethlehem, PA/Muhlenberg) was 1 for 2 with a double and 2 runs scored.
GAME THREE vs. Salem (Won 8-1)
Game three was tight early, until the Spartans plated 3 runs in the 5th to give them a 4-1 lead and that was all
Logan Magdits (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) would need to pick up the victory, holding Salem to just 1 run, on 4 hits, striking out 14 batters.
Three Spartans;
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown),
Brandon Ratti (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) and
Alexander Ruiz (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) each had 2 hits, as Northampton outhit the Mighty Oaks 9 to 4.
Northampton added 4 runs in the 7th, highlighted by a
Robert Furino (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. East) single that scored
Brandon Ratti (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley).
Northampton improves to 14-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 19.
Salem falls to 6-8 overall and 1-4 in Region play.
The Spartans return to the diamond on Monday when they host NCAA Division II Holy Family JV at 3:30pm.
